1939 Wyandotte, Sophie Tucker Roi-Tan Cigar Advertisement Coupe in Original Box
Scarce pressed steel red coupe automobile counter top promotion for Sophie Tucker's C.B.S. radio show sponsored by Roi-Tan cigars. Pristine unused store stock in near mint+ to mint condition complete with original box. It's only the second box I've seen for this piece which was 10 years ago. The streamlined art deco, red enameled auto with original white rubber tires was produced by Wyandotte for their No.501 Two Car Garage Playset. It was modified with slots in the roof, front hood and trunk to hold the double-sided steel litho ad sign. Sophie Tucker's CBS broadcast ran for a mere 7 months; 3 days per week for 15 minutes per show before it was canceled. The Chevrolet promotion ran for only two weeks. To win the auto you had to complete the statement in 25 words or less, "Man to Man, Smoke Roi-Tan because....". It was judged on "originality and sincerity". The simple pressed paper "cardboard" box was not printed or illustrated. Size: 4¼" long x 4½ tall. Sold: Mar. 2013
